Having a nostalgic lunch at TimHoWan (means luck in Chinese).
This is my first visit to Broadway Macau to try TimHoWan, I thought that the restaurants located at traditional street market is an indoor thingie, but actually it is outdoor. TimHoWan is a Cantonese dim sum chain established by chef Mak (former dim sum director of Lung King Heen, a 3-star Michelin Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong). It is well known as the ‘dim sum specialist’ and has received a Michelin star for couple of years (not this year though).
First of all, we ordered the four famous dishes which are known as the kings of dim sum. First, the baked bun with barbecued pork is the best, very delicious. Second, pan fried turnip cake is tender not too dry. Third, steamed egg cake is tender and creamy. The last one is the vermicelli roll with pig’s liver (I didn’t try this). In addition, the pork dumpling with shrimp is one of my favourites, it has the traditional taste.
We also tried rice and noodle dishes. Rice with beef and fried egg, and rice with sausage, chicken and mushroom are alright, average taste. For fried noodle with soy sauce, I don’t like the taste of the soy sauce they used.
For the desserts, we tried Hong Kong style milk tea, mango pomelo sago, and wolfberry and osmanthus jelly. The milk tea is my least favourite, the taste is not strong enough and it’s too milky. Mango pomelo sago is also a bit milky and the texture is too thick. The highlight is wolfberry and osmanthus jelly, I love the strong flavour and scent of osmanthus, very nice.
TimHoWan is a good option if you want some good cheap eats. For those who prefer to enjoy your meal slowly and want to spend time chatting, TimHoWan may not be the option.
