Is it a habit to have a vegetarian meal in Shanghai?
Without any plan for dinner, I decided to try out Wujie The Bund (Michelin Guide 2017 – Bib Gourmand, 2 fork & spoon), located at Bund 22. The environment and service is relatively good, the only thing I kind of dislike is that the staff is too concerned about my choices and kept suggesting me to have the classic ones, while I insisted to have the new selections on the menu (those classics don’t suit my taste).
The Chinese names of their vegetarian dishes are quite poetic, not in English though. My favourite is the purple cabbage and white radish roll, its sour taste is very appetising. The pumpkin soup is another one, it is creamy and sweet. The shepherd’s purse vegetable and winter bamboo risotto is not bad too, very light. The dessert, caramelised apple flutes, is quite ordinary. And why there’s no Chinese desserts?
The whole experience is alright, but when it comes to vegetarian meal, of course I prefer and recommend the one that has a Michelin star from the Fu series, Fu He Hui, it is more refined and more Zen in all aspects. Wujie The Bund is more casual, suitable for ordinary occasions.
